After 32 years, Exodus International shuts down, and President Alan Chambers apologizes to the LGBTQ community for harm done. Chambers acknowledges that he has “hurt so many by failing to acknowledge the pain some affiliated with Exodus International caused, and by failing to share the whole truth about my own story.” While Chambers retains his views on traditional marriage, he no longer believes it is the only right way.

  1. YES!! Love wins! This is huge, really huge. I accept the apology and forgive them all. The courage it takes to stop a ministry like this is enormous. Jesus’ love is relentless in dipping into our hearts and minds to pull us away from fear towards love.

    • I succinctly agree with your comment. Continued hate and condemnation towards Exodus from the LGBTQ community is such a useless waste of emotion and I, also, despite my previous disdain for the concepts of the ‘ministry,’ accept the apology. It does take an vast amount of courage to take on a true Christlike approach and admit to not only ones congregation, but the world ‘I’ was wrong. This is yet another step towards reform and building bridges between our communities (which should have never been separated) that is sweeping the world.

  2. I’m a bit nervous about this new ministry, but it is certainly good news. I have to say though, the original statement reads like an article from The Onion, so I wasn’t really sure what to think late last night. 🙂
